I plotting I had a terrible unit with LINK ERROR on two uncommon cars. You will by no means see the MAXISCAN MS300 sight on the LCD, as described in the manual. Here are the real steps to follow:

    1. With the detonation off plug it in. I at once saw CAN OBD2 on the LCD.
    2. Turn the detonation batter to the ON spot. This is the spot just before you eccentric the starter. Do not start the vehicle.
    3. Then push the ENTER pin on the booklover which starts the scan.
    4. Use the SCROLL pin on the booklover to view the consequences.

This is a clever tool, but very nearly any auto parts store will do a free code scan for you (Auto Zone, O’Reilly, Champion…), so that might be a cheaper way to go if you don’t expect to use it much. An auto renovate shop can payment you $100 or more to do the same, depending on where you are in the country.

The manufacturers website http://www.auteltech.com/index.htm and manual appear to be done by a novice “Chinese to English” transalator, so can be cryptic as best and really misleading at most terrible.

Note that just resetting the code will not let you pass inspection. The sensors have to restore a equipped/OK code for the emissions test. It takes pouring numerous miles for the sensors to retest and get back to the equipped/OK reputation.

I bought this since my car failed an inspection due to a DTC for the catalytic converter. Very than dropping the +$200 the mechanic wanted, I bought this and was able to reset the codes. Then I horde around in anticipation of the booklover said that all the eleven OBD II Speediness Monitors (or I/M Monitors) defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) were equipped. Viola – it voted for inspection.

The booklover does have all the bells and whistle such as divulging the description of the DTC codes, but it does have the generic ones in the back of the manual & here is software on the CD which I didn’t need but looks like it includes a list of manufactures DTC’s in addition the generic.

The support site is: http://www.auteltech.com/supports.htm & here is download here for the software as well.

The MaxiScan MS300 does read the codes and is simple to hook up and use. Functionally, it works.

Though, here are some honest harms:

    - As reported earlier, the CD is completely a waste of time – the code list does bed in (although bed in menu looks like it was on paper for Win98), though once that list is installed on your PC, when you go to look up P-code numbers here is no information on them – all you get is ‘no data’. You are left with the manufactured goods’s User Manual as your sole allusion to the codes.

    - The manufacturer’s website ([...]) does have a link for downloading the DTC codes, but it’s a dead link and goes nowhere – over again, completely a waste of time.

Delight note that these issues also apply to the MS500 as they share the same CD.
